Course content
The course explores concepts and content related to sustainable business development and the integration of sustainability considerations in strategic management processes. Emphasis is placed on how to incorporate economic, environmental and social objectives into organizational mission, strategy, culture and practice to create long-term value for firms, its stakeholders and society at large.
Central topics in the course include:
- Frameworks, theories and concepts for sustainable development
- Stakeholder mapping, engagement and management
- Sustainability management principles
Learning outcome
On satisfactory completion of this course, you should be able to:
- Define key concepts, principles, ideas and theories within sustainable business development
- Explain how sustainable business development apply to management and strategy
- Critically evaluate business cases in view of sustainability
- Design solutions for improving sustainability strategies in companies
- Select and synthesize information from academic and other relevant sources to support your research and ideas
- Clearly communicate your ideas and findings with academic and business professionals in an international context

The course consists of a combination of lectures and guest lectures, casework, group work, presentations, and literature discussions.

A portfolio assessment counts for 100% of the grade in the course. Information about the elements of the portfolio will be given at the start of the semester.
There will be no resit exam in this course. All elements of the portfolio must be retaken on the next ordinary exam.
